Salama! Welcome to the website of our research expedition and greetings from beautiful Madagascar, a place that has enchanted us from the first moments with its colour, diversity and hospitality. Every day we are exploring new spaces and shades of Malagasy culture, from music, dance and movement to the local imagination, traditions and beliefs.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The members of the expedition are mostly students from the University of Wroc\u0142aw, young researchers fascinated by the ethos of the island. Researchers from the Institute of Musicology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna\u0144 and the Department of Polish Philology at the Pomeranian University in S\u0142upsk are also taking part in the expedition thanks to funding received from their respective universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the students from Wroc\u0142aw had already had the opportunity to participate in extensive field research in another African country, Malawi, two years ago. Ethnographic materials from this expedition served as numerous open lectures and studies, allowing invaluable knowledge about this little-known country to reach Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On our return from Madagascar, we plan to organise a scientific conference and open lectures and workshops, during which we will present our findings to all those interested in the culture of the country. We will crown the expedition with a publication, accompanied by a rich collection of photographs and recordings documenting the folklore of the north-eastern part of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students received funding from the University of Wroc\u0142aw to cover some of the costs associated with the expedition. However, these funds are not enough for more than three weeks of intensive research on a remote African island. That is why we encourage you to support the students financially – the money makes it possible to transport them around the region, to reach small, local, often isolated communities, and to pay the artists’ salaries. Every ariary makes a difference!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
